Inquiry Learning

Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn. Benjamin Franklin

The above quote rightly implies the process of education. Education requires the students to be involved and engaged to become reflective learners.  Students become inquirers by asking questions and by making connections to their prior knowledge.

The process of inquiry begins with gathering information and data by seeing, hearing, touching, tasting and smelling.

Inquiry learning helps students to think critically and create a culture that values ideas of self and of others. Students become effective communicators that help them in accepting the viewpoint of others, defend their own opinion and accept constructive feedback.

At OIS, we give our students the Freedom to Think, Empower themselves to be. We believe that learning should not be restricted to learning through one subject. Our framework is designed to promote a transdisciplinary approach to learning. At the heart of transdisciplinary learning is the development of the whole child.  The PYP framework not only outlines the knowledge and concepts to be taught over time but also addresses the different approaches to learning developed across all subject disciplines.

As this is achieved, learning and teaching transcend in different subject areas as conceptual development is emphasized through the lens of language, math, science, social studies, and personal, social, physical education and the Arts.

Here are some glimpses which help our students to critically think while reflecting upon their prior knowledge. These include various strategies, visible thinking routines, and reflective tools for students to take action.
